Our Young Leader Programs provide an opportunity for young people to work alongside our horse ‘teachers’ to build self-confidence, self-awareness, teamwork, communication, trust, leadership skills and much more. Sessions provide an introduction to Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) for young people aged 8 to 17 years. The best part…it’s lots of fun!!! Under the guidance of our trained facilitators, participants work in small groups of two or three with one horse. Together, through positive interaction and teamwork, they tackle various activities to achieve a specific objective. Each week builds on the previous, providing an opportunity for personal growth through the development of key life skills.

Horses are exceptional teachers when it comes to developing leadership skills. As herd animals, they intuitively seek strong leadership in order to feel safe and secure. If we don’t provide the leadership, the horse will! For example in order to lead a horse successfully, participants must be consistent and clear. We can’t ‘make’ a 500kg animal do anything it doesn’t want to!

Our programs help participants understand the subtleties of strong leadership. Once they are taught the basics of dealing properly with a horse, they can become the leader the horse seeks. When the horse feels safe, cooperation is a hundred fold and they can easily get the horse to do what is asked of it. As facilitators, we help participants parallel this learning to their everyday lives, improiving how they with others in all areas.
